Hunza is a valley in Gilgit-Baltistan, north of Gilgit on the Karakoram Highway. Its floor is a strip of terraced orchards held in place by centuries of irrigation channels, with Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar and Ladyfinger Peak standing above it. Karimabad is the main town, with the restored Baltit and Altit forts above the apricot terraces. North of Karimabad the valley becomes Gojal: Attabad Lake, formed when a landslide dammed the river in 2010, the Hussaini suspension bridge, and the Passu Cones. The highway continues to the Khunjerab Pass at 4,693 metres on the Chinese border, generally open from around May to November. Darwesh Travels runs a 5 day Hunza Valley tour and an 8 day Hunza and Skardu circuit.
